WON BASS Tri-States Championship

Posted by admin on November 11, 2011

ttc_nacimorningfog.jpgThis was the first TOC (tournament of champions) that I have fished in California.  I haven't tried to qualify for one until this year and it’s pretty easy to do if you fish enough events.

The WON BASS Tri-States is pretty cool.  It’s the best team tournament guys from the Southwestern three states (CAL, AZ, NV).  90+ teams (over 180 anglers) came out to try their luck at winning the grand prize…a brand new boat!

I was fishing alone in this team event…I think I was the only guy fishing alone which ended up hurting me bad by the end of the tournament.

I bombed bad in this one…and without knowing anything at all about the lake and having no local help, I was completely blind going in.  I understand now that I had the wrong strategy going into the event.

On day 1, I wanted to fish for numbers and cycle through enough fish to start off with a decent limit then gamble for bigger bites on day 2 hopefully being able to dial in more of a solid pattern.  Well I caught a bunch on day 1 but I had one of the smallest limits of the day…lol.  I had 3 topwater fish in the AM and tons of plastics fish after that but all super small fish.

Day 2, I had a limit in 30 mins and culled 4 times in the first hour…but they were all baby keepers.  My day 2 bag wasn’t much better than day 1 and I was so far down in the final standings I stopped looking…lol

Oh well.  I did have fun.  Some great fisherman there told me afterwards that I was one of only a few anglers to have caught a limit by myself (no partner help) two days in a row.   The fishing was tough overall.  Not sure if that’s really true however but I guess I’ll take it and move on to the next one.

As KVD would say…”It’s all about attitude.”

Two thgnis about weather here---I hate hot humid summers in the south and I hate really cold weather, but for a trout like that I would brave the cold. Nice catch!!!

Never mind the color, once you use cutosm built rod you will never go back. The balance and the grips made just for you, as well as the length. Nothing compares. Try it you'll like it.Tight lines
